If you're over 65, you're now eligible for free checkups and other preventive health care options under a new Medicaid benefit that's not in effect. Colonoscopies, mammograms, annual physicals and other screenings now are available at no cost to Medicare beneficiaries, including about 136,000 in South Dakota. The changes arise from the health care reform law. For the elderly, the government now covers the co-pay, often $25 a visit, for a series of medical screenings.
