The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says South Dakota's preliminary unemployment rate for March was 4.9 percent, up slightly from February's but down from 5.1 percent in March 2010. KELO reports although the jobless rate hasn't changed much in the past few months, the state says the economy's picking up steam, with 2900 workers added this year, compared to a loss of 5200 the same time a year ago.
